Some other ideas for Mothers Day

If you look at our blog recently we have mentioned or featured these great products we sell on our website, http://www.agoodsort.com/. They both would make great Mothers Day gifts.

The first one is a great piece of Bling, it is a keyring that hangs on the inside of your handbag so you will never have to go searching around the bottom of your bag again. The other one is a clever little pod called a P-Pod. There is a whole range of them but for Mothers Day we will talk about the Handbag P-Pod. Inside this clever little pod are all the things you probably already have lying, (once again ) around the bottom of your handbag. Instead they are in one easy to find pod that fits nicely into most handbags. Contents of the Handbag P-Pod lip balm, refreshing wipe, moisturiser, hairband, tampon, sewing kit, antiseptic wipe, bandaids, mints, comb, tissues and pen. Why don't you give your Mum or yourself something that will really come in handy this Mothers Day?

We of course have our Family organiser, my.organiser, which would be the ultimate Mothers Day gift this year!

Talking about Mothers Day gifts, you must go over to Under the Loupe and have a look at some of Annette's beautiful handmade jewellery one of these pieces would put a smile on most Mum's faces. S

Fantastic idea for Mothers Day

Every house has loose keys hanging around the place, if you know what a certain key is for, label it and put it on a key ring with the other keys that are for locks around the house. If you have no idea where a key is for, test it in all the locks, if you still can't find a lock it fits place it with all the other odd keys on a key ring for "homeless keys." If it is too difficult to throw these out that is fine as long as they are altogether.

Look at this clever idea from Off The Wall. These are old drawer handles now being used as a place to store keys etc.
At agoodsort.com we have another great idea for keys, this is an essential piece of bling for all those ladies who loose the car keys in the bottom of their hand bags, you must drop by and have a look. It would make a great Mother's Day gift. S

Mother's Day

We at agoodsort.com believe in getting organised early. Mother's Day is next month so start thinking of what to get your Mum, and if your husband is like mine, what to get your Mother- In-Law. Most importantly, write a list of the things you want your children to buy for you.

Here are some great candles I found at My New Shiny Shoes for the Mother's Day cake (we don't usually have a cake but it is worth having one this year just to use these candles.) S

A guide for all husbands

The Hormone Hostage knows that there are some days in the month when all a man has to do is open his mouth and he takes his life in his hands. This is a handy guide that should be as common as a drivers licence in the wallet of every husband, boyfriend, co-worker or significant other.

This is a great chart I found on The Tall Poppy , ...good find Anne!!
I am a true believer in "if Mum isn't happy then the house doesn't run smoothly". So as soon as our partners/husbands learn this chart off by heart the sooner we will feel like getting our houses in order.S

This might sound really over the top but to help when organising and to keep the rest of the family organised...label everything.

I have the shelves in our linen cupboard labelled, big sheets, little sheets, pillow cases etc. My panrty is full of labels, flour, sugar, coconut.... Let me explain, it is very basic, whenever you give something a new home label it. eg photos in a photo box label it Photo Box. Stack all your sheets on in sizes , label the shelf- queen fitted, queen flat, single fitted etc. For the young members of your family you can label their clothes draws, undies, socks, singlets etc.
It might seem a bit extreme but you will be surprised that when there is a label in front of you, you can't do anything else except put the item back in the right place. Have a look at our website at the before and after photos www.agoodsort.com/gpage1.html

I have a simple labeller from Office Works. These days there are alot of affordable lable makers.

So go for it and watch out anyone who is standing still for too long you might get labelled. S

Spring Fluffing???

You may be asking why I have included a photo of a frangipani on our organising/decorating blog. Well, in reading about blogging (there is alot to learn) and surfing the web I have learnt that the there are so many beautiful blogs and bloggers out there who we can learn from and share with. Melissa from The Inspired room (USA) is doing a Spring Fluffing game with her readers (she has lots) and they are all sending in photos of how they are getting their houses ready for Spring.

Well here in Australia we are at the end of Autumn and heading into Winter. I went out into the garden to find what was left of the summer flowers and found the last of our Frangipanis. So this is my contribution to Melissa's Spring fluffing game.

Instead of Spring Fluffing here in Australia we all should be getting ready for Winter. Here are some of the chores we are doing in our house.

  • Get out the Winter School uniforms making sure they fit. (taking down hems if needed)
  • get out the blankets and washing or airing them before they are put on the beds,
  • making sure everyone has winter PJs that fit ( I have already had to get new pairs for both my girls)
  • Dust off the heaters
  • T and I believe that now, even though it is the middle of the year, it is a good time to get organised in all aspects of your life, and one of the biggest challenges for Mums is the paper work and day to day routines. Have a look at our family organiser on http://www.agoodsort.com/ , buy one now and finish off the year in an orderly fashion. Don't forget to enter our Mothers Day Competition.

This is just for starters, but hopefully it has got you motivated to get these things done so you don't spend the school holidays doing these boring chores! S

Get inspired and get started!!

“When life inspires our home, our home will inspire our life.”

I found this saying on a lovely blog called The Inspired Room and there Melissa has some beautiful pictures of Clever office space. For all those mums, like us, who work from home and share the desk and computer with the husband and the children. We can only dream of such lovely desk areas. It does show that you can make any nook or cranny in to an office.

T and I believe that storage, storage, storage is the key and it doesn't have to be expensive. Even the $2 shops have matching colourful storage boxes in all sizes. A box for files, one for paper, one for CDs, one for ?? Get the idea? Come on get inspired and get started.... do your office space this week. S

organising digital photos

I have 1000's of photos filed in my.pictures and every time I went to look for one, I'd have to scroll through all of them so I sat down and came up with a solution.

This takes a bit of time to set up, but once it's in place, it will make the filing of your digital photos (and retrieval) a thousand times better.

  • First create a FOLDER for every year you have digital photos e.g. 2006, 2007, 2008
  • Then move all your photos to the corresponding folder
  • Then within the year folder, you need to label your folders:
  • So that they appear in month order e.g. Jan to Dec (as the computer lists your folders either alphabetically or numberically) label your folders like this: 1. Jan 2008, 2. Feb 2008, 3. Mar 2008...

For an even better labelling system, you can add more information like the event the photos were of, of if they were of your daughter or son add their name, so they can find their photos easily e.g. 1. Jan 2008 - Qld holiday, 2. Feb 2008 - Imogen, 2. Feb 2008 - Club soccer - Cameron, 3. Mar 2008 - Girls weekend - Tricia, 4. Apr 2008 - Easter holidays...

By adding the number 1. Jan the computer lists these in order, so it's so much easier to go back and find photos. Also by having the year in 1 folder, you can easily copy this folder to a disc to have a back-up of your photos and you can also copy the disc to put in a file for each of your children so they have a complete set of photos (for that glorious day when they leave home).

Let me know how you go, am happy to help you if you're not sure how to create and move within your folders. T
